Defibrillators
Defibrillators installed along the Bahnhofstrasse
In a joint action by Zurich University Hospital and, among others, Swisscom, defibrillators have been installed in 13 telephone booths on the Bahnhofstrasse, at Central and at Bellevue. One of them is located directly in front of our store. This measure aims to help save the lives of people who suddenly suffer a heart attack.
This pilot project is the first of its kind in the country. Every year, one to two persons die in the area around the Bahnhofstrasse as a result of cardiac arrest; countrywide, there are 25 deaths a day. These lives could be saved by having a defibrillator on hand.
Laypersons in the immediate area have been provided with clear and simple instructions on how to use this device properly. Beyer staff have received basic training by specialists from Zurich University Hospital. We also regularly attend first-aid courses and store the most important medicines and drugs in our shop. While we naturally hope that we shall never be confronted with an emergency, if the need does arise, we have received the necessary training and would be pleased to help.
