Beyer's Flower Clock
Flower clock now sporting a new winter look
Situated in a prime location in the heart of Zurich is the famous “flower clock”, which is set against a magnificent backdrop of the lake and mountains. It was donated to the city of Zurich by the Beyer company in 1985. The dial of Beyer’s giant flower clock at Bürkliplatz, measuring 5 metres in diameter, is now adorned with stone flowers, which also act as the clock’s numerals. The white marble stones stand out against the orange brick-granulate background. Moreover, the green moss in the centre of the timepiece provides a link with the surrounding grassy area. The artist, Daniel Ramsauer, has created a fascinating contrast between the moss and the stones.
In spring, the clock will once again be planted with around one thousand colourful flowers. The movement weighs about 70 kg and is radio-controlled.
