Hublot and Alinghi

Alinghi with Hublot at the 33rd America's Cup

The dream of celebrating another victory at the America's Cup is over. The Swiss Alinghi team lost both races to its challenger, BMW Oracle. For a decade, Ernesto Bertarelli had, with the Alinghi, secured landlocked Switzerland a place on the map of the best sailing nations in the world. With its defeat at the 33rd America's Cup in Valencia, Spain, this era has now come to an end. The “Auld Mug”, as the trophy is affectionately known, is now back in the USA, where it had remained without interruption from 1851 until 1983.

Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of Hublot, supported Alinghi in this tremendous challenge, giving rise to an incomparable combination of expertise, technology and passion. Hublot has produced an exclusive limited-edition Alinghi watch, made from similar materials to those used in the construction of the yacht itself.

The picture on the far right shows the yacht of Larry Allison, founder of the BMW-Oracle team. The yacht, which bears the beautiful name of Sunrise, is 138 metres long, can reach a speed of up to 28 knots, and cost USD 200 million.
