The Beyer Watch

The design of this watch emulates the giant timepiece that hangs outside the Beyer shop. It has served as a trademark for decades, and can be seen from a long way off on the Bahnhofstrasse.

Distinguished visitor in Glashütte

09/07/2015

In August, the new manufactory of A. Lange & Söhne was officially opened by none other than German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The imposing new building, with its ultramodern workshops, is a ground-breaking development for the traditional craft of watchmaking. The company relaunched itself in the 1990s and over the last 25 years has become one of the best-known watch brands.

The new building with its 5400-square-metre production area is an urban landmark at the southern gateway to the town of Glashütte. With its bright and clearly structured facade, the two-part complex harmoniously blends in with its historic architectural surroundings.Saxony’s largest geothermal energy plant – with 55 downhole heat exchangers extending to a depth of as much as 125 metres – keeps the indoor climate pleasant throughout all four seasons. The electricity needed to operate the pumps is green. Thus, the new Lange manufactory is a CO2-free facility that makes an important contribution to climate change mitigation.
