The Beyer Watch

The design of this watch emulates the giant timepiece that hangs outside the Beyer shop. It has served as a trademark for decades, and can be seen from a long way off on the Bahnhofstrasse.

Walter Lange has passed away

01/17/2017

Walter Lange has died at the age of 92 years. René Beyer is deeply saddened by the death of this extraordinary man and great figure from the watch-making industry. Our two companies are closely linked by a collaboration that goes back many years, as Beyer has been a partner of A. Lange & Söhne since the very beginning.

In the wake of the reunification of Germany, Walter Lange bravely resumed the family tradition that many believed had been lost for ever. On 7 December 1990, 145 years to the day after his great-grandfather Adolph Lange had so courageously taken the pioneering step of establishing the watchmaking firm of Lange, Walter Lange arrived in the East German city of Glashütte, where he set up a new company, Lange Uhren GmbH.

The small pioneering team has now grown to 770 employees, and the first collection with only four watches has blossomed into five clearly distinguishable model families. The extraordinary product and design quality of A. Lange & Söhne watches has been recognised with over 250 international awards – this impressive development would not have been possible without the pioneering and organisational achievements of Walter Lange. For his work, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Free State of Saxony in 1998 and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2015.
