BYGONE TIMES

To tell the story of timekeeping with as few gaps and as colourfully as possible, the Beyer Clock and Watch Museum acquires special exhibits every year. Here are some of our most impressive recent finds.

PENDANT WATCH C1800

The plain white enamelled dial contrasts with the ornately decorated case. The movement is wound with a key. The apple clock was made by Marchand Fils, Paris.

CLIP WATCH C1900

The small ladies’ watch can be attached to clothing with a clip. Manufacturer Chaumet, founded in Paris in 1780, is now part of the LVMH Group.

WRISTWATCH C1940

Chronograph with tachymeter and telemetre scale by Excelsior Park: the watch company from Saint-Imier was extremely successful with their sports watches. Their movements were also used by Zenith. Nevertheless, they went bankrupt in 1984.

POSTBUS CLOCK C1950

The EFAP on-board clock is wound by turning the glazed dial front and set by lifting the bezel. Mechanical clocks like this with eight-day movements were found in Swiss PostBuses as well as other vehicles.
